Easyjet flies Bristol to Hiraklion on Crete, Rhodes Town and Corfu Town in Greece.
Hiraklion is the 4rth largest city in Greece with approximately 175000 population
Rhodes Town holds about 80000 citizens
Corfu town has about 28000 pernament citizens.
Most people relate those as summer destinations, but I believe that they can make a very pleasant city break, for 3-4 nights are a very good option! Obviously plenty of food there, sea side locations and lots of sight-seen. Corfu is enclosed by 2 castles and the old town is a UNESCO heritage site. Italian/Venetian influence is strong is the architecture of the city, plus it was always a favored destination of local and western royals, and there are palaces to be visited. Obviously you can make many side trips around the island,Paxoi island or even Albanian coast from Corfu town.
Rhodes old town is an UNESCO heritage site too, and a very scenic one! In reality is a medeval town surviving, with its history connected for ever with the Knight of St John. It is surrounded by mideval wall and fortifications and most streets are paved on lime stone. There is the famous Grand Master’s Palace to be visited, plus the old Knights hospital which is now a great archeological museum, there are some mosques and churches and other stuff too, and on a hill on top of the town there is an Ancient Acropolis too. Many side trips are possible, from boat trips to popular beaches/bays and to near by islands to bus trips to popular attractions such as Kallithea spa or Lindos.
Heraklion city’s trademark might be the Venetian Fort by the Harbor, and in general many streets and sites are venetian related. Of course one of the most popular archeological museums of Greece are located there and a side trip to Knossos Palace is highly recommended. If you are into this kind of attractions, a great sea aquarium is located too.
hope this was helpful 🙂
