It’s the era of entrepreneurship and technology, evident from increasing number of work-from-home opportunities especially for women. I have gained the exposure of working in an office, however most of my professional tasks have been completed from home and I enjoyed more than ever. For so many people, it is not seamless to change the way they used to work that is why I have come up with few practical tips for women who wish to work efficiently from home.
1. Create a working space
One of the most critical aspects of working from home is to have a specific working area because it’s very important for you to dedicate a space for your work to give a feeling of an office setting. Working from home gives you an option to set-up your working space the way you like. Even if that means a comfortable couch with a laptop, go for it if it is boosting your productivity. Whatever suits you best, a specific portion in your home should be dedicated for your work.
2. Prioritize your tasks
One of my best working from home tips is to have a list. Creating a list has been highly beneficial for me as it always help me to complete my daily tasks without missing deadlines and it also keeps me on track. Also, prioritizing a list and finishing it before your days ends give you a motivation and helps in sustaining your focus.
3. Scheduling
I have heard women saying that working from home is distracting, and it’s true. The liberty of working from home comes with distractions, however if we start to scheduling our work it can actually be more productive. For example, I have motivated myself to schedule my tasks because I should be working well. Start scheduling your working hours and when you are working, do not think anything else (like what should I cook for dinner?, I have so much laundry to be done, I will be late for the party etc.).
4. Dress up
Dressing for starting your work from home gives you a fresh and motivated feeling. No I am not asking you to wear a formal suit, just get out of your pyjamas please? Seriously, I prefer to get dressed before I start my work. Unless I have an online presentation where I have to wear something formal, I prefer wearing my workout clothing as they are comfortable and give me a sense of accomplishment. It is also important to encourage ourselves to maintain healthy home workout regime, check out my post for how to motivate yourself for a home workout.
5. Take a break
One of the biggest challenges working from home is to determine when to take a break. Most of the women think that if they are working from home, they don’t need a break after all they are working from the comfort of their home so why take a break? However, it’s a wrong perception. Breaking off from your work schedule is a necessity. It will improve your productivity, boost your focus and diminish distractions.
